Fencing TV — iOS, Apple TV, Android and Android TV

Fencing TV shows results, brackets and video from international fencing. Most of what the app does needs nothing from you at all: browsing competitions, reading a bracket, looking up a fencer and watching footage require no account and no personal information.
Two parts of the app are different, and this policy is mostly about them: the Club feature, where a club records attendance, and the Coaches directory, where a coach publishes a profile they write themselves.

What the app collects

The app never asks for an email address, a phone number, a postal address, a date of birth or a payment detail. It has no advertising, it sells nothing, and it contains no third-party advertising or tracking software.
What it does not collect
- Your location, precise or approximate.
- Your contacts, calendar, messages, call history or files.
- Health or fitness data.
- Anything from your photo library beyond the single image you choose. The app uses the system photo picker and holds no storage permission, so it cannot see the rest of your library.
Analytics and crash reporting
The app uses two Google Firebase services:
- Firebase Crashlytics — when the app crashes, it sends a report containing the stack trace, the device model, the operating system version and the app version.
- Google Analytics for Firebase — records which screens are opened and basic session information, together with a randomly generated app instance identifier, the device model, the operating system version and the country the request came from.
Both are used to find bugs and to understand which parts of the app people actually use. Neither is used for advertising, and no advertising identifier is collected. The app instance identifier is not your name and is not linked to a club account; uninstalling the app resets it.
These reports go to Google, who process them on our behalf. Google's own handling of that data is described in the Firebase privacy documentation.
Children
Fencing TV is not designed for children and is not directed at them. The people who sign in are coaches, club administrators and parents.
Children do appear in the app — as names on a club's attendance register, added by their own coach. A child's name and attendance are visible only to that club's coaches and to the parent or guardian the club gave a code to. They are never public, never shown to another club, and never used for advertising or analytics.
A club may instead give a code to the fencer themselves. That is the club's decision, and even then the app asks nothing of them beyond a display name.
Who can see what
- A parent sees only the children their club linked to their account, and nothing about any other family.
- A coach sees their own club's register and nobody else's.
- The public sees a club's page and a coach's profile — and a coach's photo, headline and biography only after that coach chooses to publish them. A club can list a coach by name and set their title; it cannot write or edit anything else about them.
- Nobody sees a student list, a session or an attendance mark except that club and that child's own family.
Where the data lives
Club and coach data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure (a Cloudflare
Worker with a D1 database, and R2 for images). All traffic between the app and
the server uses HTTPS. A sign-in token is held in the device's encrypted storage
— on Android in EncryptedSharedPreferences, on iOS in the Keychain —
and is never placed in a URL or written to a log.
Competition results, rankings and video come from public fencing sources and contain no personal data of yours.
How long it is kept
A student's record and their attendance are kept for as long as their club keeps them. A club archives a student rather than deleting them, so that a term's attendance history is not destroyed when somebody leaves — an archived student is no longer on the register and no longer appears in any list.
Crash reports and analytics are kept according to Google's Firebase retention settings, which is at most 14 months.
Deleting your data
- A student's record — ask the club. A club administrator can archive or rename a student, and can revoke any account's access.
- A coach profile — unpublish it in the app at any time, which immediately removes the photo, headline and biography from public view. To have the record deleted entirely, write to the address below.
- Everything else — write to anhapo11@gmail.com and say what you want removed. We will action it within 30 days.
Uninstalling the app removes the sign-in token from your device but does not by itself delete anything held by your club.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who can see it, the date at the top will change and the new version will be published here before the change takes effect in the app.
